Four pictures of the same archive. A calendar of the record books
Every bar is one uninterrupted run of matches that did not end level, drawn from the day it started to the day a draw ended it. Laid on a shared calendar the records cluster: the modern game produces them faster, because there is simply more football being recorded. The one to remember is Manchester City — 50 matches between 2020-12-19 and 2021-09-15 without a single draw.
Does football draw more than it used to?
These are the competitions this database follows furthest back — far enough that an era is visible in them at all. Most league coverage here starts in 1993, which is why the panels lean on cups and on Norway, where the record runs deep. In the FA Cup, 12.3% of matches were drawn across 1879–1905, against 17.5% across 2016–2025. Knockout cups sit far below the leagues throughout: a tie that has to produce a winner is not a fixture that can settle for a point.
How far back the record goes, country by country
A bar per country, running from its earliest recorded match to today, with the number of played matches beside it. The shape of the archive is plain: a long English tail, a deep Norwegian and Swiss one, and a thirty-year block where the modern league feeds begin. The oldest match on file is from 1871-11-11, in England.
Every ranked team on one pair of axes
The draw score is this site's own measure of how overdue a draw a team is — its recent draw rate weighted against how far its current run has stretched past its own record. Plotted against how much football each side has played, the cloud narrows to the right: the more matches a team has on file, the harder it is for its score to reach an extreme. Hebei tops it on 0.748 from 216 matches. Named dots link to that team's predictor page.
